Godrej’s cool design
The Godrej EON range of refrigerators won the coveted "Best Product Design” award in the consumer durables sub-category in the ‘Home’ section at the Business World-NID (National Institute of Design) Excellence Awards function held in New Delhi on January 20, 2007. Considered a forum for recognizing the best designed products, the evaluations were done by a panel of prominent national and international jurists comparing parameters like aesthetics, level of customization for the Indian market, materials used, safety and comfort, ease of use, technical performance, sales volumes and most importantly, costs, notes a press release.
The jury comprised Preeti Vyas Giannetti, chief creative officer Vyas Giannetti Creative, Lalit Kumar Das, head, Instrument Design and Development Centre, Lars Lallerstedt, industrial designer, Sweden, Kimuru Toru, executive director (architecture and design), Nagoya Institute of Technology Japan, Kenneth Segal, head, industrial design, Hassadah College of Technology, Israel.

Godrej EON refrigerator: relevant to customer needs
Godrej was the first Indian company to manufacture refrigerators in 1958. Its EON range launched in September 2006 is considered "a marvel in refrigerator design… committed to offering technology which is relevant to the customers’ needs.” Some of their innovative features include cool shower technology, swivel shelf which can rotate to help access smaller containers at the back, polybag suspenders to conveniently hang packets in the freezer, the door shape designed to offer the maximum space where it matters with 2.5 l aqua space in the door, the largest vegetable tray, tinted shelves that make the interiors bright and vibrant… Constantly on the lookout for innovative features, Godrej Appliances has now extended the EON range with the EON Fresh series where two models, 243 and 263 liters, are available in four new colors — melon red, kiwi green, icy blue and yellow nectar — to brighten up the kitchen and overcome the tyranny of white and metallic.
"We have had a four percent increase in share in the frost-free segment from 12 to 16 percent and plan to take it up to 20 percent by the end of the year,” mentioned Kamal Nandi, vice president, sales and marketing, Godrej Appliances, who received the award. Earlier Godrej had won the second consecutive CNBC Awaaz Consumer Award for the Most Preferred Refrigerator Brand and the Most Trusted Brand from Reader’s Digest. With state of the art microwave ovens, washing machines, air conditioners and DVD players in its product basket, Godrej is a leading appliance player in India, sums up the release.
