Zoroastrians Abroad

Official acknowledgement

Zoroastrians have consistently been on the honors roll wherever they reside. Nonetheless it is always gratifying to record each achievement. Philanthropist and lifelong Hong Kong resident Rusy Shroff was honored with the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong Government Special Administrative Region, reported the South China Morning Post on July 1, 2006. The government thus recognized Shroff’s “valuable contribution to charity and his dedicated service to the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association (HKTCHDA),” notes the publication.

As director of The Community Chest, a non governmental organization, Shroff collects funds on behalf of member social welfare agencies, acts as donor trustee in the allocation and use of the funds and provides an integrated service to donors wishing to support a wide range of welfare services. The HKTCHDA, of which Shroff is currently vice president since he retired voluntarily as chairman after 17 years, operates the 614-bed Ruttonjee Hospital which his family has bequeathed to the city of Hong Kong.
