Comart’s conversion

Process houses have run the gamut from block making to transferring images on film. Now with the advent of computer to plate technology and digital printing, film has a limited lifespan. So what does a processor do?
Comart Lithographers, one of the leading process houses in the country, has availed of the lucrative outsourcing market by offering "service for global publishing, packaging, advertising and other graphics intensive businesses.”
In an interview with Onboard, the ITC Limited Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division newsletter, Comart director Fred Poonawalla stated, "Offshoring is a huge opportunity… Comart recognized this early and we think we are best positioned from a capability point of view to offer world-class prepress services to global customers. Our dedicated operations for the two large UK-based retail stores has been operational now for over a year and that makes us a pioneer of sorts in the specialized area of core prepress services. We are extremely positive about progress in the packaging pre-media/publishing BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) space.”

As for the Indian printing market Poonawalla is optimistic: "The Indian packaging industry is growing, and this growth is directly linked to the growth of the prepress packaging sector… packaging plays a critical role in selling and every marketing person wants his product looking its best on the shelf. These are some compelling reasons which indicate to me that the future for the packaging industry and the prepress industry is going to be really explosive.”
Services offered by Comart include pre-media, print and data services.
