Zoroastrians Abroad
Davier’s gallery
We knew that Homi Davier of Chicago was a successful businessman and until the advent of the Wadia family a couple of years ago, was the only Zoroastrian running an airline in Europe and North America. We knew of his involvement with the founding and strengthening of the World Zarathushti Chamber of Commerce and of course, he was a pillar of strength — financial and moral — in the successful conclusion of the Seventh World Zoroastrian Congress. But we were entirely ignorant of Davier’s artistic abilities.
Davier uses oils and acrylics as a paint medium and works on different themes even though his desire calls for him to paint mainly pictures with a story, notes his website. It was at an artist’s meeting place called "The Well” in Houston that he was gently nudged back to the art scene and now he has reached a stage where his artworks literally sell even before they have a chance to dry!
Though not all individuals would ever appreciate the same medium or picture, Davier comes from a family of artists and his inborn talent was discovered when he was in high school and was called upon to assist his peers in completing their fine art projects. This motivated Davier to pursue producing art on his own and some of his creations are hanging in the halls of homes, large corporations and institutions in India. His largest project was a mural done for a hotel in Bombay and was displayed in its foyer. According to his website, his works find a place at corporate houses like Exide batteries, the Nagpur Airport Authority, Air India, Tata’s Bombay House, Imperial Palace Hotel and In Phom Hotel across the width of India, from Bombay to Nagpur to Calcutta.
Since 1968, Davier delved in art on a commercial level. Over all these years till today, many a times has he stopped and resumed his painting and when the mood beckoned he has once again picked up his brushes, busy painting and collecting art for his own one-man show. He is happy to get back to the source that has brought him so much happiness, painting for joy! Davier’s paintings are available for view and sale on his website www.daviersgallery.com
