Canvas of life

"Nature is my greatest inspiration and my canvas – a depiction of the various phases of life. My art is also a reflection of my emotions and real life experiences,” declares Hoshnar Kaikobad in his invite to his exhibition "Good Times…Bad Times” at Bombay’s Nehru Centre from May 23 to 29, 2006. "Though I paint in all mediums, I prefer to work in oils because it gives me an added freedom and flexibility,” conveys the artist.
This first solo exhibition in Bombay "portrays very sensitive work which reveals a lot of Hoshnar’s inner self and therefore it (reflects) a lot of the artist’s personal anguish and then light,” observes sculptor Prof P. S. Sawhney.
The 22-year-old Poona-based artist had two solo shows at Poona’s Mazda Hall in 2000 and 2002 and being an active member of SIMA (Society of Indian Marine Artists) has had four exhibitions with this group. Every exhibition has been successful in terms of sales, mentions Sawhney.

Kaikobad with his paintings

Kaikobad got initiated into drawing and painting under the able guidance of Prof Carlos Dupratt during his school days and later obtained his diploma in applied arts from the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Poona. He has been pursuing art for more than a decade. Over the years his works have been displayed at The Art 2 Day Gallery, The Empress Garden and Balgandharva Rammandir, all in Poona, the Army and Navy Building in Bombay and the walls of a foreign visitors’ lounge in Goa, notes an introduction to the artist.
