Swnariwalla: "Guarded optimism"
The local Oregon chapter had been largely dormant until Sumariwalla, 72, became its president, notes Paul Fattig writing in the Mail Tribune (December 28, 2005). Valuing the international scale of UN operations, especially its peacekeeping forces, Sumariwalla told Fattig, "As members of the UN Association we can approach our legislators and urge them to support the UN, not to cut dues, for example .. .I have guarded optimism (regarding the future of the UN). It is better to believe the glass is half-full rather than half-empty. And I think the glass is more than half-full."
