Milestones

Milestones data for the first 15 days of June are published herewith. Thirty-one Zoroastrian bodies were consigned to Bom-bay’s Doongerwadi. Only four Parsi births were reported to Parsiana. Heart disease claimed seven lives of whom four were in the 80+ age group. Four patients each fell prey to brain disease, diabetes, pneumonia/lung disease and cancer. Old age general debility and hypertension took a toll of two lives each. The isolated cases registered were head injury, gangrene, Alzheimer’s disease and muscular dystrophy. Two youths, aged 18 and 36, were lost to the community. The highest age at death was 95 years. The Zoroastrian life expectancy at birth for June 1-15, in Bombay, was 72 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. In the breakup of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.

CORRECTION

In the Bombay births column of the May 21st issue, it was inad­vertently published, "A boy to Farzana and Mehli Golvara on April 3, 2005.” The announcement should correctly read as "A girl, Jenai, to Farzana and Mehli Golvala, sister to Huzan on April 3, 2005.” The error is regretted.
