Prof Mehta endowment

Prof Jamshed K. Mehta was an institution, a great sentinel of scholarship and academic excellence. He was a professor of economics in the University of Allahabad. His book A Philosophical Interpretation of Economics has been rated as a classic and has been translated in several foreign languages. There was no branch of economics in which Mehta’s original contribution has not been recognized.

A citadel of moral values, excellent manners, gentlemanliness and humanism, Mehta always reminded us of the rishis of Vedic times — calm, composed, radiating and soothing.

He was at his best in the sphere of psychology, philosophy, religion, sociology, mathematics and even medicine as one of the leading homeopaths.

Mehta subscribed fully to the basic tenets of a non-violent, peaceful, socioeconomic order. He delivered a series of lectures as visiting professor under the auspices of the Institute of Gandhian Thought and Peace Studies, University of Allahabad where he analyzed various concepts and ideas of Gandhi and evaluated their relevance for contemporary society. These thought-provoking talks compiled under the title "An Analytical Study of Gandhian Thought” could not be published for want of funds to meet the cost of their publication.

This Institute is keen to raise funds and create an endowment to arrange lectures and undertake other activities to carry on the work initiated by Mehta.
