“Fund-raising luncheon”

There is a gross error in "Fund-raising luncheon,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, January 2003. It mentions "the late scholar Prof Eruch Munshi” and then refers to the passing away of the Munshis... Please note Eruch is alive and well and continues the long established tradition (along with Lovji and myself) of collecting money for needy families of Udvada, Surat, etc.

May I inform you that Prof Eruch Munshi is fortunately still with us. His good wife Perin is no more on the globe. Years back Eruch was with the Surat Parsi Panchayat working as the house master of the Surat Parsi Orphanage where he was an inmate for several years. He left the place, studied further and went to the States and became a professor there.
His grooming at the Surat Parsi Orphanage was under educationists like Ervad (later on Dastur) Khurshed Shapurji Dabu and Ervad Eruch Dossabhoy Dabu. This excellent grooming made Eruch such a good Jarthosti that in the States he became the soul of the Zoroastrian Association of Greater New York and was instrumental in founding a Darbe Mehr there. Besides he and his late wife, along with some other members, collected good amounts for the benefit of Parsi institutions and deserving Parsis of Udvada, Navsari and Surat and continue to do so every year.
Sometimes one feels Parsis staying outside India think and work more for the betterment of society than those staying in their motherland. Eruch is an excellent illustration of the same.

Parsiana offers its profuse apologies to Dr Eruch Munshi and his family. Dr Sam Bhacca is not to blame for the error which is entirely ours. While editing the piece, the error occurred due to an oversight.
