Titan’s TraQ tracking
Titan’s new TraQ series of smart watches launched this February can "accurately track running, swimming, cycling and walking, depending on the smart gear” one selects, noted the company’s website, titan.co.in. "The time pieces can also monitor the heart rate and the calories you consume.” The "wearable” category fitness TraQ is the first ever smart gear conceptualized and developed in-house by India’s largest watchmaking company, notes a press release.

"Very very robust, very solid,” is how tech columnist Rajiv Makhni describes the watches in a YouTube video.
Available under three variants, Lite (Rs 3,999), Triathlon (Rs 17,999) and Cardio (Rs 16,999), the higher range models have in-built global positioning system, transflective display and a heart rate monitoring system, among other features. Transreflective displays reflect sunlight and automatically adjust its backlighting, reducing the need for manual light adjustment.
While Lite is an introductory watch and comes with a chest strap to measure heart rates, the Triathlon and Cardio models have smart watch functions, music on demand with adjustable beats per minute (BPM), can provide call and message alerts, weather updates, alarms, a stopwatch and timer. The products are easy to use while wearing protective gloves or with sweaty fingers, according to the company’s communication.
As noted Suparna Mitra, chief executive officer of the Watches Division of the company, "While there are many sports accessories brands, there are very limited players who offer products to track the performance in various sports.”
Titan, with revenues of over Rs 21,000 crores, is a joint venture formed in 1987 between the Tata group and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation. Titan manufactures watches, jewelry, eyewear, fragrances, accessories and Indian dress wear.
