“A grave matter”
Let me congratulate you on your editorial, "A grave matter” (Parsiana, May 7-20, 2021). You have taken the stubborn orthodox bull by the horns to try and wrestle it into submission by putting forth the case for having part of the Doongerwadi grounds reserved for the burial of Covid victims.
Grave is the situation we find ourselves in where logic and reason take a backseat to dogmatic traditional thought.
Change is the only constant, and we have adapted over centuries in India to reach where we stand today. Make our children proud by applying wisdom where it is sorely needed. Our ancestors did so by acts of philanthropy which we revel in. Let’s do our bit regarding these grave matters. HOMI IRANI

Regarding your editorial "A grave matter” (Parsiana, May 7-20, 2021), on reserving part of the Doongerwadi grounds for the burial of Covid victims, one of the suggestions is to publish the legal opinion of a senior respected counsel of our community in Parsiana. This would need inputs on facts and documents which the Bombay Parsi Punchayet would have. So perhaps they as a body or individually are better placed to obtain the opinion and then share it.
I venture to crystalize the queries.
Is it legally permissible for the competent authority to pass a resolution to provide for an area for burial at Doongerwadi? If yes, would it be necessary to approach any legal forum for permission? Would it be necessary for the competent authority to approach the competent legal body for modifying the trust deed? KERSI DHONDY
