“Appeal for amputee”
The WZO Trust is happy to inform that adequate funds have been collected towards the medical rehabilitation of Aspi Sepoy who met with a train accident at Udvada railway station on September 14, 2017 resulting in both his legs having had to be amputated above the knees ("Appeal for amputee,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, October 7, 2017).
Whilst still at The B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital (PGH), Sepoy has now begun to undergo daily therapy, learning the modalities of using the prosthetic legs being fabricated for him by Endolite India Limited. Since life of the prosthetic legs with proper usage is estimated to be around eight to 10 years, looking to Sepoy’s age (47) he is likely to require a minimum of three additional new sets for which we have made provisions.

Aspi Sepoy learning to walk with his new prosthetic legs
After the first set of prosthetic legs have been fitted and he gets used to them (which should take eight to 10 months) we will still need to continue supporting him. The WZO Trust will therefore invest the surplus funds collected for Sepoy in government approved securities. From the interest received we will pay him around Rs 25,000 every month for his sustenance and support for his two young sons. This will need to be done until such time he is employed once again and able to lead a near normal life.
Whilst it is not possible to acknowledge all the 407 donors, it is essential to recognize the big donors who have contributed substantial amounts towards Sepoy’s rehabilitation: Zoroastrian Charity Funds of Hongkong, Canton and Macao, Pervin and Jal Shroff of Hong Kong, the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America, Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe, Bai Maneckbai P. B. Jeejeebhoy Deed of Settlement Fund, Tata Education and Development Trust, lawyer Darius Khambata.
The WZO Trust takes this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to: Drs Jamshed Bunshah and Jehanbux Chichgar and their medical teams for providing completely gratis treatment to Sepoy; counsellor Binaifer Sahukar for providing gratis service, the administration, nursing and support staff of PGH for the cooperation extended, the Parsi media for their support and cooperation in creating awareness that has been instrumental in raising substantial funds.
