Ten community professionals feature in India Business Law Journal’s "The A-List: India’s top 100 lawyers for 2017. The compilation is "based on the collective views of in-house counsel in India and around the world, as well as India-focused partners at international law firms,” according to the Journal. The 2016 list had nine Parsi names (see "Legal lights,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, January 7, 2017)
Alka and Marezban Bharucha are at the top the alphabetical list. Practitioners in Bharucha and Partners (see "Loving the law,” Business, Parsiana, November 21, 2017), Alka specializes in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, banking and finance, and general corporate laws while Marezban, who is a solicitor of the Bombay High Court, England and Wales, and Hong Kong is listed as specializing in corporate and commercial disputes.
Percy Billimoria, who heads the New Delhi office of law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, specializes in direct tax (he is also a chartered accountant) and competition law.

The areas that Bomi Daruwala of Vaish and Associates specializes in are private equity, general corporate law, and taxation.
Rukshad Davar of Majmudar and Partners serves clients seeking advice in competition law.
Conferred with a doctorate of laws by Amity University, Raian Karanjawala of Karanjawala and Company of Delhi includes dispute resolution as his key area of specialization.
Zia Mody of AZB Partners specializes in company restructuring and foreign inward investment.
Bahram Vakil also of AZB Partners lists project finance, energy and infrastructure, and insolvency and bankruptcy as his key focus areas.
Shiraz Patodia of Dua Associates, Delhi represents domestic and international clients in "arbitration matters before various courts and arbitral forums in India including the Supreme Court,” notes the Journal. Patodia is also the counsel in the Goolrookh Gupta case where her sister Gupta is appealing a case in the Supreme Court for her right to visit the fire temple and Doongerwadi in Valsad, South Gujarat.
Dina Wadia of J. Sagar Associates specializes in investment funds and mergers and acquisitions.
Nominations were received "from professionals at a wide range of Indian and international companies, law firms and other organizations,” notes the Journal. The final list reflects the nominations received combined with the (Journal’s) editorial team’s more than 30 years of collective experience in documenting and analysing India’s legal market,” it adds.
