Jashans at Jhansi
Manie K. Bhagat, the oldest member of the Jhansi Parsi Anjuman (JPA) was felicitated on completing 100 years. She had traveled to Jhansi from Bombay to pay her respects at the aramgah for her loved ones who are buried there, writes Ronny Dick, president of the JPA in an email sent to Parsiana. Many others had come from Bombay, Poona and Nagpur for the jashan at the aramgah on October 23, 2016. The last resting place was built by the late Merwanji Eduljee Boyce in memory of his wife and inaugurated on September 23, 1894.

Devotees at the Jhansi aramgah; jashan
A jashan was performed by Ervad Mehrzaad Sanjana who had come from Bombay. He performed another one at the Parsi Dharamshala on the evening of October 24, followed by a humbandagi. Two minutes’ silence was observed in memory of those who had passed away recently — Hoshang Kohina, Dhunji Anklesaria, Pervez Bhagalia, Jimmy Bhagat and Adi Bhagalia.
The community in Jhansi is grateful to Sanjana for performing the jashans at the aramgah and Dharamshala as well as in the homes of many of the residents. Sanjana, in a subsequent letter of thanks to the JPA, acknowledged that he had a pleasant stay in Jhansi, that everything was "meticulously planned” and that the prayers, "especially at the aramgah created an aura of bygone days.” He also mentioned that he found the aramgah property maintained in good condition.
At the function on October 24, the JPA was thankful to Burjor Bharucha of Bombay and Firoze Pestonji of Lonavla for their donations of Rs 5,000 each. The JPA requests Zoroastrians to donate towards the repairs and maintenance of the Dharamshala and aramgah. Cheques or demand drafts favoring "Jhansi Parsi Anjuman” may be sent to Ronny J.
