“Mhow: a mine of material”
The photographs and contents of the cover story "Mhow: a mine of material” (Parsiana, September 7, 2016) were a delight to go through. What made it even more interesting is that the book in which they appeared was researched and written by Denzil Lobo, a non-Parsi.
In the same issue Cmde Medioma Bhada’s letter "Nanavati nostalgia” in Readers’ Forum brought back memories to all those who had lived through those times. Ashish Thakore’s "Such a long journey” was a saga of courage and conviction. Rather than lament over our dwindling numbers, if we accept young people with one Parsi parent we will be doing away with illogical gender discrimination and increasing the numbers within the community. I welcome Thakore who had his navjote done because, in his own words, "I have a burning desire to be a part of the community and because I believe so strongly in the religion and its teachings.” The article "The candid couple” was bold and beautiful. It should help broaden and sensitize mindsets. "Learning in Tihar Jail” by Kobad Ghandy made my heart ache for this highly educated, well placed man whose only crime was that he gave up everything to help the less fortunate, the voiceless, the marginalized and the poor of our country. How many of us would be able to do that?
For all these well written and thought provoking articles, I thank Parsiana.
