Promising dentist duo

By Sherene Vakil · August 7, 2016
Drs Farzana Irani Bharucha and Taronish Bhaurcha, a husband and wife team that runs the Pearl White Dental Clinic in Bombay’s Gamdevi area, have won the India Health Care Award 2016 for Most Promising Dentist in Mumbai. The award was bestowed on the beaming pair by film actress Dia Mirza at Bangalore on June 19, 2016. The India Health Care Awards are a "celebration of excellence,” say Blindwick Solutions Private Limited, a leading global insight driven market research company which gives the awards. Their website states that the awards are given to honor doers and pioneers of the healthcare industry in over 60 categories, including doctors, clinics, hospitals, healthcare providers and others. "When we heard about the recognition we were extremely happy that our hard work and care towards our patients had culminated into such a prestigious award,” states an email from the couple.

At their clinic the dentists, both 30 years old, "provide multispecialty dental care including fillings, root canals, gum treatment, cosmetic dentistry, braces and implants. We feel that our community should be more aware about their oral health since it has a major effect on the overall health. There are strong links between oral health and conditions like diabetes, heart disease, arthritis and osteoporosis which are quite prevalent in our community. We as a community are also known to have gaps, malalignment, protruding and slightly yellow teeth because of which many of us don’t smile and it also affects our confidence and personality. These dental issues are now easily rectified by treatments like veneers, laminates and bleaching,” they stated.
"Many of our senior citizens have lost their teeth and either have had no replacement done or struggle with uncomfortable dentures. This causes them to eat less, lose weight and eventually fall ill. Dental implants with fixed teeth are the solution to this so that they can enjoy their meals again. It brings us immense pleasure when we can help people from our own community look, feel and chew better!” the dentists note.
