“Countering interfaith…”
I agree with the first half of Dara Khodaiji’s letter ("Countering interfaith…” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, April 21, 2016) about interfaith marriages not being common in the past since earlier societies were closed. I beg to differ with his later contentions that the interactions between Parsis has lessened and that "mixed marriages are a modern day sociocultural phenomenon.”
Even today, if parents take the trouble to inculcate love and respect for our religion in children and the need to marry within the community, things would be much better. It is also a fact that most boys are less educated and earn less than our girls. However, if parents stress religious and educational values, things can still be different. We should change for the better. Once the community decides and comes together, we will multiply.
