The first ‘Parsiana?’

By Sherene Vakil · April 7, 2016
The name ‘Parsiana’ was used as far back as 1911, writes contributor Prof Ardeshir Damania of Davis, California, in an email to the magazine. He has attached the scanned copy of a letter by ‘The Parsi’ Publishing Company of Bombay (pictured), dated August 2, 1911, to the Huzur Secretary, Gondal State, which shows the telegraphic address on the letterhead as ‘Parsiana,’ Bombay. Parsiana magazine was first published by Dr Pestonji Warden in November 1964.
The brief business communication from 1911 reads: "We have pleasure in posting to your address, under separate cover, three copies of our issue of 30th July containing a notice of the Report of the Administration of the Gondal State which you sent us with a request to review the same. We trust that the same will meet with the approval of his Highness and the Dewan.” Which it did.
