“The Zoroastrians of...”
It was interesting to read Khursheed Eduljee’s article, "The Zoroastrians of Zanzibar” (Parsiana, March 7, 2016). The Parsis of East Africa, though a lesser known diaspora, had distinguished themselves in various areas of activity from the late 19th century onwards.
Dr J. S. Mangat, in his scholarly book A History of the Asians in East Africa, c1886 to 1945 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1969) mentions: "In 1904 the minister of public works in Zanzibar, the registrar of the Court and the chief sanitary officer were all Parsis. In Kenya, a Parsi held the post of head of the PWD (Public Works Department) between 1896 and 1908.” (No names were given.)
It would be interesting for Parsiana to collect more information on the East African Parsis.
