“Follow our traditions”
I have read the editor’s comments, printed along with my letter ("Follow our traditions,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, November 7, 2015). I feel prejudice against women is much deeper in other castes and communities. Our women are treated much better than most others; in fact, almost at par with men. There are caste differences among Hindus which are much deeper than ours.
In any case, how does it stop a woman from following traditions like chalk-chandan, making ravo-sev, mithu dahi, ses, haar-toran and praying from the Zend Avesta? Unless, of course, her husband or his family object. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see little children going to agiaries and atash behrams in traditional dress? We enjoy parties, dramas, movies, etc but have little time for tradition. If our tradition can be revived by the mighty pen it will bring back the much needed Parsipanu. It is upbringing that also matters and you can motivate parents and grandparents to ensure this. ARMIN DUTIA MOTASHAW
