“No greater gift”

I was moved to read the story of Farrokh Guard whose cadaver was donated ("No greater gift,” Parsiana, September 7, 2015). However, he is not the first Parsi to do so, as stated in the report.

Faranak (Ana) Hirjee Nagarwalla

My late niece Faranak (Ana) Hirjee Nagarwalla (54) who passed away in Poona on January 24, 2006 had done the same. I had sent a report about this which was published in your magazine ("The last charity,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, March 7, 2006).

When Parsiana posted the item on our Facebook page reader Pheroza Daruwalla, who is on the committee of the Australian Zoroastrian Association of Sydney, pointed out that her late mother, Jamshedpur resident Silloo Surti, "a Parsi who ‘lived’ humata, hukhta, hvarshta” had also donated her body for research, as did another lady Silloo Dotivala, also from Jamshedpur. "Both Silloos,” she reports, were active in the Jamshedpur Parsi Association and were principal founders of Baug E Jamsheed School in that city. Daruwalla is doing a second PhD at the University of Sydney on the topic of Zoroastrian Diaspora and Pilgrimage. Silloo and her late husband Eruch Surti used to represent, along with the late Homi Bodhanwalla, Jamshedpur at the Federation of the Parsi Zoroastrian Anjumans of India meets.
