“Donate organs”
With reference to the letters by Dr Vira Todiwala and Framarz Sethna ("Donate organs,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, February 7, 2007) I would like to enlighten our community about the procedure for donating the body. Instead of donating organs separately, it would be best to donate the entire body to the Grant Medical College. One must collect forms from the J. J. Hospital’s anatomy department, fill them up and submit them there to obtain a donor photo identity card.
When death occurs the authorities should be informed by the legal heirs (after the prayers, if so desired). The body will be taken to the hospital and used by medical students. The person can also donate his or her eyes to an eye bank before the body is handed over to the College. The remains of the body will be disposed of in an electric crematorium.
