Parsi stage curtains

By Sherene Vakil · April 7, 2015
The now famous "art museum” adorning the walls of the T2 Terminal of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport will soon be enhanced with the addition of a section focusing on the culture of bygone eras, airport officials informed Daily News and Analysis (DNA) on February 10, 2015. And among the items on display will be Parsi proscenium theater curtains of Bombay, with their rich depiction of street life and places.

An airport insider told DNA, "The Parsi proscenium theater curtains of Bombay will add a layer of whimsy with three dimensional sections of stone facades and jharokhas (ornate Mughal style balconies).” Parsi proscenium curtains were relegated to oblivion after the arrival of cinema in India. Until then Parsi theater was a very popular form of entertainment from 1850 until the 1930s with theater companies owned by Parsis.
Once complete, the T2 art wall will have nearly 7,000 artifacts which nearly 1,500 artists worked hard to complete, DNA notes.
