Apps for productivity
Fifty women — entrepreneurs, professionals, doctors and home makers — attended a program on Enhanced Productivity Using Computer and Mobile Apps, organized by the Women Entrepreneurs (WE) wing of the World Zarthushti Chamber of Commerce (WZCC) on January 31, 2015. The program was conducted by IT (information technology) master Yazdi Tantra in the Audio Visual Room of the Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy School for Boys and Girls, Fort, Bombay, mentions an email received from Homai Mehta, WE chairperson. Also present were WE committee members Veera Mundroina, Villie Daruvala, Behroze Daruwalla and Dolly Dhamodiwalla.

Tantra, a well known speaker with a passion for disseminating information on technology, was introduced by Mehta. Daruwalla spoke briefly about the parent body, WZCC which has 53 chapters worldwide, with each chapter working independently. She outlined the activities and explained how the chapters functioned. Mehta urged participants to become members of WE which would grant them automatic membership in WZCC. Several ladies enrolled immediately while others planned to do so at WE’s March program for International Women’s Day, the email notes.
Tantra, founder of On-lyne services, is also vice chairman of Zoroastrian Bank and director, global technology, for WZCC. Capturing the attention of the participants, Tantra said he would perform magic by connecting the computer to the mobile and proceeded to demonstrate on the screen what websites, Android Apps, Dropbox, Google Docs and Evernote are. He also spoke about Doodle.com, a free site to help users to set up meetings and schedule events. WorldTimeBuddy.com is a free time zone convertor which gives the time for any four cities and can be installed on the mobile phone as well. Through TimeAndDte.com+app one can search for the time in any city around the world and even set an alarm for any other time zone.
Messaging through your computer; making telephone calls; scheduling messages and saving drafts can be done through MightyText.net. While the travel related site Worldmate helps with a readymade itinerary, key items on your ticket, hotel bookings/confirmations and car hire, for finding out the status of flights and other information related to air travel, one can use Flightstats.com Other sites like SentThisFile.com, PrintWhatYouLike.com, Stayfocusd help in managing information and protecting data, Tantra explained.
