Yeoman service by PGH
Yeoman service by PGH
The B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital (PGH), Bombay, is rendering yeoman service to the Zoroastrian community. My 83-year-old brother who is financially weak fell ill in September 2013 and his family doctor advised that he should be admitted in hospital. His daughter approached the PGH trustees who were very helpful and agreed to admit my brother in the free male ward. He was admitted on September 3, 2013. After excellent treatment, my brother recovered and was discharged on December 7, 2103.
After a lapse of about 30 years I visited the PGH to see my brother and over the period of three months that he was a patient there I was amazed to find the PGH spic and span as well as providing the following services on a daily basis, totally free of charge: 24x7 attendance by nurses and ward boys; sumptuous non-vegetarian meals; regular change of bed linen and hospital uniform; regular baths, shaves, haircuts, as per the wishes of the patient; regular administration of medicines as per instructions of the attending doctor.
I also came to know that two Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustees pay courtesy visits once a week to patients in the free wards. On the day of my brother’s discharge the Hospital gave him a stock of free medicines to last 30 days and an excellent walking stick along with his discharge card.
I was so pleased that I sent a donation of Rs 25,000 to the PGH and would urge our Zoroastrian brothers and sisters to send substantial donations to the Hospital for the excellent services rendered to needy members of our community.
