Wadia owned Britannia Industries is tying up with Amazon India for the launch of Good Day Chunkies, a super premium chocolate chip cookie. At Rs 50 for five cookies, this is the company’s most expensive product and during the first few weeks after its launch in late November, it will be sold exclusively on Amazon.in, reports The Times of India (TOI) in its issue of November 21, 2014.
"Clearly, digital is the emerging distribution channel,” Varun Berry, managing director of Britannia Industries informed TOI, adding "The tie-up with Amazon will give us a lot of insights as to what this channel can offer us.” Initially, there will be no delivery charge for the product which will be part of Amazon’s gourmet and specialty food store. This will be the first of its kind initiative for the 100-year-old biscuit manufacturing company for which the Good Day brand brings in 26% of its revenue, or about Rs 1,600 crore, TOI reports. In September this year Cola Cola entered into a similar exclusive partnership with Amazon India to launch its sugar-free drink, Coca Cola Zero. A short while later Burger King, the American fast food brand received pre-orders for 1,200 "Whopper” burgers through a tie-up with eBay even before its store opened in New Delhi.
