Bangalore child rape case
Rustom Kerawalla, 48, founder chairman of the up-market Vibgyor School in Bangalore where a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by two men, was apprehended on the night of July 22, 2014 in the Union Territory of Daman, produced before a fast track judge in Bangalore the following day and granted bail reported The Times of India (TOI) on July 24, 2014.
The rape of the minor evoked heated protests by parents and activists and the police invoked several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A skating instructor who, along with a colleague, had allegedly raped the child on July 2 has been arrested. Under the POCSO Act, the entire staff of the school would be liable to face punishment, according to the police. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror of July 24, 2014, the police have invoked section 201 of the IPC (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) against Kerawalla.
