Reprieve for Soonawala

Rape accused Dr Rustum Soonawalla has received a reprieve from Bombay High Court vacation judge Justice A. M. Thipsay who directed the police not to arrest the general practitioner till June 11.

A signature campaign has been launched by members of the Parsi community alleging that the doctor was victimized and framed on account of being a social activist and fighting encroachment of open spaces in Bandra.
The accusation was lodged by a tuberculosis patient who visited Soonawalla along with her husband at his clinic on Carter Road in Bandra on May 17. Soonawalla absconded following the allegation.
He has agreed to provide semen, blood samples, etc to prove his innocence.
