Sorabjee for governor?
According to government sources eminent jurist Soli Sorabjee has been tipped to be the next governor of Karnataka and a formal proposal will be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee, reported Asian Age (AA) on July 6, 2014. Sources revealed that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Rajnath Singh were of the opinion that apart from top ministers, eminent people who have excelled in different fields should be appointed as governors.
Soli Sorabjee: tipped for gubernatorial post
In addition to being one of the most senior lawyers at the Supreme Court, Sorabjee has also served as attorney general of India. Others included in the final gubernatorial list are former petroleum minister Ram Naik, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Uttar Pradesh Lalji Tandon and Kesri Nath Tripathi, senior leader from Madhya Pradesh Kailash Joshi, Delhi BJP leader V. K. Malhotra and former Punjab minister Balramji Tandon, reported AA. The timing for appointing the new governors is not certain, the newspaper mentions, quoting sources. While one section within the new dispensation feels that this should be done immediately, others urge waiting for a suitable time.
