Utter waste

It is an unconscionable bonfire of our community’s precious three crore rupees by trustees of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) in the case of two priests who were debarred by them from praying at Doongerwadi and the two agiaries managed by the BPP. This despite the Bombay High Court ruling categorically that the BPP did not have the power to do so.
Since the monies flow out of the BPP’s coffers, and not from those of the trustees, the trustees are playing ducks and drakes with the community’s resources. This must stop and these trustees must be declared persona non grata at the coming elections in 2015. However, their frenzy must stop now.
The official name of the BPP itself suggests that this is not an episcopal body.

Positive ideas
So much is wasted… time, effort and money. Why can’t we have a think tank?
If vultures are not available, cannot foxes and hyenas take their place? They can enter from a cage and be sent back to it after they devour the corpses.
We can engage our elderly (senior citizens) to teach our children about our religion, inculcate faith in them and train them to be good citizens and good Parsis. Why don’t youngsters adopt an elderly person or couple and look after their needs once a week? They could visit senior citizens in homes for the aged once a month, read to them or just chat with them.
Young students can join hands with bodies like the Bombay Parsi Punchayet or the World Zoroastrian Organisation to grow trees in our colonies, agiary compounds, hospitals, and also help in these institutions.
Parsi schools should have holidays during the Gatha days and finish their exams before the Parsi New Year. A Zoroastrian study class, on the lines of the Bible class in Catholic schools should be started.
We should work with such positive ideas instead of merely arguing, discussing and doing nothing beyond that.
