“Why I opt for cremation”
I fully agree with the learned opinions expressed by Prof Soli Arceivala in his rational and well argued article "Why I opt for cremation” (Parsiana, March 7, 2014) which is devoid of false sentiment.
In my opinion, burial, though not harmful to the environment, is an option we cannot afford in the present context where every bit of land needs to be put to more productive use.
Many of us would like to opt for cremation. We are deterred by the fact that the deceased is not allowed to rest in the ruwaan ni bungli and that our clergy is not willing to perform the paidast and other after-death ceremonies. It amounts to our being indirectly denied the right to make a very important decision.
Meaningful change can come about only when we have the wisdom and courage to face reality. ZARIN MISTRY
