SC date for priests’ case
The Supreme Court has set February 2014 to hear the Special Leave Petition filed by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) against the Bombay High Court (BHC) division bench order in the so-called renegade priests’ case.
Over two years ago the apex Court had recommended mediation which so far has not produced results. If the BPP and the two petitioners Jamsheed Kanga and Homi Khusrokhan do not arrive at an understanding, the Court will proceed with the case.
The BHC Justices Dr Dhananjay Chandrachud and Anoop Mohta had ruled that the BPP did not have the powers under the trust deed to bar priests from performing religious ceremonies.
