The Bombay Parsi Punchayet distributed Rs 37,50,000 to 125 priests and madressa students

Altogether 125 mobeds including 26 madressa students and their parents were presented cheques totalling Rs 37,50,000 to officially start the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) Mobed Amelioration Scheme (MAS) on August 5, 2013, states a press release from the apex trust. Cheques of Rs 30,00,000 were handed to 99 Bombay mobeds for the quarter April 2013 to June 2013. Twenty-six students in the two madressas (22 Dadar madressa students + 4 Cama Athornan students) were each paid Rs 7,500 quarterly and 26 parents of the students were given Rs 22,500 quarterly, states the write-up. Presently, the mobeds have been disbursed Rs 10,000 per month. The mobeds have been identified based on the data furnished by each mobed as well as the panthakies or trustees of the fire temples. This was followed by personal interviews by the MAS committee members and the final advice of the high priest and scholar priests.
Under Phase I the eligibility criteria for mobeds were: full-time mobedi throughout their life (without any other commercial vocation i.e. service, business, etc); mobeds performing pav mahal kriyas (ijeshne, vendidad and visparad); atash behram boiwallas, notes the release. Even in the past if the mobeds have followed any vocation or done service in private firms or banks, they have been included in Phase I.
