Continuing challenges

By Hilla P. Guzder · August 7, 2013
Writing for the first time as chairman, Tata Motors in the company’s 68th annual report, Cyrus Mistry stated that the year ahead would continue to be difficult for the automobile major. "Rapid changes in customer preferences along with the deregulation of diesel pricing both took their toll,” he stated. As the major portion of the company’s profits come from Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Motors is looking at promoting the brands in India and in countries like Saudi Arabia and Brazil, in addition to China which remains its biggest market. "The company is working on a slew of new products, with a plan running up to 2020. This includes appropriate focus on alternate fuels, hybrids and electric vehicles,” noted the Tata Group chairman.
