On top of the world
Dr Murad Eruch Lala scaled the summit of Mt Everest at 9.10 a.m. on May 19, 2013. His wife Dr Mamatha, who emailed the information to Parsiana wrote: "This has been his childhood dream and all his efforts have paid off.” According to the website peakfreks.com all 14 members of the team reached the summit on the same day.
According to Jehangir Bisney of Hyderabad who disseminates community news on the web, Lala is "the first person from Secunderabad and the state of Andhra Pradesh to do so.” He may also possibly be the first doctor and the first Parsi to climb the highest peak in the world, rising to a stupendous 29,029 ft.

Lala, 49, a consultant cancer surgeon at the P. D. Hinduja National Hospital and Research Centre in Bombay is the son of Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Eruch and Coomi of Secunderabad. Parsiana had carried an item on the Lala family titled "Adventurous achievers” (Events and Personalities, January 7, 2013) in which the doctor couple had admitted that they "share a great passion for extreme adventure sports.”
Lala had also spoken about his ambition to conquer Everest, which was an expensive proposition and for which he was seeking sponsorships. He said he was "a keen mountaineer, having completed the Triple Crown Expedition Training in Nepal which is compulsory for summiting Mt Everest. In 2012 he scaled three peaks near Mt Everest, up to an altitude of 21,000 ft,” and was certified fit to ascend the world’s tallest peak.
