Golf’s golden girl

By Parinaz M. Gandhi · May 21, 2013
At the annual Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club Championship on April 19-20, 2013, 22-year-old Nasha Sarkari emerged winner in the women’s section for the fourth consecutive year. Despite an injury, Nasha kept her cool to walk away with the golf championship for the fifth time. Altogether 144 competitors participated in the two-day event, mentions her father Roomi, also an avid golfer.

Whilst last year she had a 5 handicap, this year she dropped behind to 6 as being in her last semester at college, she was unable to participate in too many events. (The maximum handicap permissible to a woman player is 36 as against 28 for men. A golfer who regularly shoots each of the allowable strokes on a golf course is rated a par or scratch golfer with a zero handicap, explains the website, golflink.) She did though play in the RAK (Ras Al Khaimah) Ladies Open, SHJ (Sharjah) Ladies Open and The Montgomerie Ladies Open.
Sarkari has just completed her Bachelors in Business Administration. As an undergraduate she got an opportunity to apprentice with some high-end multinational companies like Hermes, Chanel, Bvlgari, La Prairie and Guerlain. She has also worked at the DXB World Trade Exhibitions with their marketing team.
Whilst golf is her favorite sport to which she has been devoted since the age of six, "Nasha is a fitness freak…and is a regular at Mixed Martial Arts classes as well and loves to bake in her free time,” states Roomi.
