Maintain a balance

Your magazine is a voice for Zoroastrians and Parsis all over the world. However, there are very few articles from eminent Zoroastrian and non-Zoroastrian scholars about our religion and customs. Sadly, most Zoroastrians are not very familiar with what our religion stands for. There is more to it than just good thoughts, good words and good deeds. I am sure in-depth articles on this would be welcomed by your readers and both orthodox as well as liberal scholars. There will be disagreements but a healthy debate is needed. As our prophet Zarathushtra said, let us all use the gift of our good minds to decide for ourselves what is right and what is wrong.

Too much emphasis is given by your magazine on matters that divide the community. I am not saying that these matters should be avoided but a healthy balance in your magazine airing different viewpoints would increase readership. The appearance of bias must be avoided. It is perhaps one of the reasons why your readership — in India especially — is not what it should be.

There is much to celebrate in our great religion and there are many unsung heroes in our community who do not get mention. (I was very happy to see the article on the Zartoshty Brothers who sadly are not so well known especially among the Indian community.) It would be great to see more articles and inspiring stories on this positive side and solutions to our problems. This is important for Zoroastrian youth who are tired of reading about the constant disputes in our community and want to know more about the religion and prominent Parsis/Zoroastrians. Our religion emphasizes positivity in dealing with life. Let your journal reflect this as well. ASPI BULSARA
