False presumptions

Some people have apprehensions regarding converts, without properly studying the realities, labeling as "convertists” those who have no intention of inviting non-Parsis into the fold or into the Zoroastrian religion. The world is changing fast and throwing up new challenges, so old customs need to be changed too. Changing a wrong mode of life into right convictions is real conversion.
Some traditionalists always view the dark side of the picture, despite so many "ifs” in the situation. Nothing may happen as they presume it will. Such people have little faith in the future or in God. Members of Zoroastrian organizations and associations should visit foreign countries like UK, USA, Canada and Australia where many Parsis/Iranis live, in order to study their lifestyle, interview them to get the facts, consider their circumstances, environment and situations under which they select their spouses. Naturally, in the West the selection of a Parsi spouse is rare and the ratio of mixed marriages is high.
A proper study without prejudice will reveal that non-Parsi spouses do not convert from their original religion and traditions. Under the registered marriage system they are free to follow their own convictions and no cases of conversion to Zoroastrianism have been recorded. Such families experience little conflict as the spouses and their progeny place more emphasis on love, affection and family bonds. Conversion is known to have taken place in rare cases, so why make such a hue and cry over it? The wise among the community remain silent and refrain from criticism.
I do not advocate mixed marriages or conversion. But we must learn to face reality and discard controversies. Negative presumptions regarding the future will never end, and will only serve to enhance the splits in our small community. Let us cultivate positive thinking and give due consideration to the circumstances as they play a major part. Biased minds are incapable of seeing the brighter side.
