“WAPIZ defeated itself”

I wish to voice my sincere appreciation of Dara Khodaiji’s views on potatoes in his letter "WAPIZ defeated itself” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, August 21, 2011).
The Parsis’ (myself included) love for potatoes, "boiled, baked, fried, sliced, diced” is legion. Who among us has not gorged on sali par eedu, papeta ma marghi, sali ma gosh? You will agree that it is "the potato” in the above mentioned dishes that puts the "extra something” into an otherwise non-vegetarian dish. So too our Muncherji Cama will enhance any association he joins, Inshallah!
I live far away in a mofussil area, have no interest in any Bombay Parsi Punchayet, but it pains us here to read the ochha panu (petty-mindedness) that is going on in a premium Parsi institution. The elections are no better than any political ones with fanfare and lalach (greed) and mud-slinging.
But it is in the aftermath of these frenetic activities that we can sit back and "munch” on our favorite snack, resting assured that it will see us through.
With such a hope I am renewing my subscription to Parsiana which I had earlier stopped in disgust.
