Farah to face camera

Having made a name in Bollywood as a choreographer and graduating to film direction, Farah Khan will soon face the camera for the first time in a film set against the backdrop of the Parsi community. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali told her that he wanted to cast her as the heroine of his production Shirin Farhad, she thought it was a joke. "Never had I imagined myself as an actor. But Sanjay narrated this sweet story written with me in mind. And I thought, ‘Why not? You have only one life and at my age where will I get another chance,’” the 40-something Khan whose mother is a Zoroastrian admitted to Hindustan Times (HT) in its August 8, 2011 edition.

Farah Khan: acting debut

Shooting for the film is scheduled to begin in November. Playing opposite Boman Irani, Khan will essay the role of an unmarried, middle aged firebrand named Shirin. She explains that she had always visualized Shirin Farhad as a tragic couple, like Romeo and Juliet or Heer Ranjha, but "this movie is happy. You’ll be laughing even during the emotional moments,” she told HT, adding, "Interestingly, Shirish (her film director husband Shirish Kunder) and I used to call ourselves Shirin and Farhad when we were dating.”
