Tribute to Tirandaz

By Complied and written by Sherene Vakil · June 21, 2010
Road No 9 off Khareghat Road in Dadar Parsi Colony was named after the late Rustom Sheriar Tirandaz, noted resident, one-time municipal corporator and trustee of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP), as a result of an initiative of the trustees of the Mancherji Edalji Joshi Memorial Trust (MEJMT). The Rustom Tirandaz Road was inaugurated on May 2, 2010 at the hands of chief guest Eknath Gaikwad, member of parliament, in the presence of municipal councilor Raghunath Thawai, BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta, BPP trustees Armaity Tirandaz (his wife and successor on the BPP board), Arnavaz Mistry, Khojeste Mistree, Jimmy Mistry, Yazdi Desai and others, as per a press release sent to Parsiana by Aspi Vasania, MEJMT trustee.

In their speeches the chief guest, the municipal councilor and Jimmy Mistry highlighted in glowing terms Tirandaz’s achievements and lifetime of selfless service. MEJMT trustees Mithoo Jesia, Zareen Engineer and Vasania had spearheaded the move to have the road named to honor the memory of Tirandaz. Master of ceremonies Mahiyar Dastoor conducted the proceedings at the inauguration with élan, the report notes. Tirandaz, who died on January 27, 2009, was always accessible at any hour of day and night to help those who sought his assistance.
