Lecture award for Cyres
Dr Cyres Mehta, who passed out of Mangalore’s Kasturba Medical College in 1995, was honored by that College with the Dakshin Karnataka Lecture in June 2009. Dr Norman Mendonca, president of the Association, presented Mehta with the Lecture Award before a packed hall at the Mangalore Club. "To come back and accept this lecture in my old medical college where I learnt much of my art from my distinguished professors gives me much pleasure,” Mehta said.

He then elaborated on the latest advances in cataract and glaucoma surgery such as non penetrating deep sclerectomy which he pioneered in India in 2001. Over the past decade he has been pushing for advanced methods of eye surgery such as multifocal lens implants and cataract surgery sans anesthesia using only eye drops at the Mehta Eye Institute, Masina and Breach Candy Hospitals in Bombay.
