“Obsessed with trusts”
In his letter "Obsessed with trusts” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, April 21, 2009), Rointon Andhyarujina advises the laity to ignore the Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustees because they are not really interested in serving the community and instead to respect the high priests.
I would like Andhyarujina to let us know how many of our high priests care to give public lectures, say at least once a month, to educate the laity about the unique concept of dualism propounded by Zarathushtra, about the translation and interpretation of the Gathas, about the causes for the downfall of the Persian empires and about the reforms needed in the community in view of changing circumstances. Hardly any. Our high priests prefer to remain secluded in their ivory towers.
Andhyarujina should be reminded that respect should be earned. In Christianity the bishop gives religious instruction at every Sunday mass. In Islam the mullas give sermons on religious occasions. Let our high priests do the same and respect will follow.
