Vancouver vignettes

The current board of directors (2008-09) at the Zoroastrian Society of British Columbia (ZSBC) is led by Kashmira Suraliwalla. Her team includes secretary Jessi Partovi who also maintains the Society’s newletter, In Search of the Truth, and honorary treasurer Farrokh Namdaran. Farhad Roueintan is in charge of social events, Mehernosh Kasad’s purview is youth and sports and Faramarz Soroushi looks after the Dare Meher’s maintenance and the activities of the seniors in the community, as per the ZSBC website www.zsbc.org

The active Zoroastrian youths in the region, ranging in age from 13 to 35, have their own association — Zoroastrian Youth of British Columbia (ZYBC) — and their own website, www.zyouth.org. Their board of directors include president Bahman Sotoodian, secretary Shahryar Khosra­viani and treasurer Shahin Shaidaei who organize movie and sushi nights and other fun events with the aim of promoting greater friendship and amity within the youth of the community. The group meets every other Friday at the Rustam Guiv Dare Mehr for an evening of fun and togetherness, as notes In Search of the Truth (March-May 2009).

Vancouver will host the 5th World Zoroastrian Youth Congress in the first week of July 2011. As the website notes, "The Zoroastrian youth from around the world will be able to discuss the five W’s (who? what? where? when? why?) about Zoroastrianism.”
