Bodhanwallas of Balasore

Reacting to an article printed in the Jam-e-Jamshed Weekly dated December 28, 2008 in which it was stated that there are no Zoroastrians in the eastern state of Orissa, Benaifer S. Bodhanwalla has sent an e-mail informing Parsiana that the Bodhanwalla family has been residing in Balasore, Orissa for the past four generations after pioneering members of the family had set up a business there in the late 1920s.

Bodhanwalla was happy to note that they had celebrated, on January 4, 2009, what is probably the first navjote performed in Balasore, that of young Sanaya. The family keeps itself informed about community happenings by subscribing to both the Jam-e-Jamshed and Parsiana, and earlier to the Kaiser-e-Hind as well, Bodhanwalla reveals in her e-mail, sent on behalf of the entire family.
