Parsi Ambulance awards

Captain Roddy Sale, officer Order of St John, was chief guest and inspecting officer at the Annual Review Parade of the St John’s Ambulance Brigade, Maharashtra State Unit on March 1, 2009 at the Maha­rashtra School Sports Association ground, behind the Parsi Ambulance Division buil­ding at Dhobi Talao. This 105-year-old organization was started in 1904. On the occasion, medals were awarded, among others, to members and staff of the Parsi Ambulance Division for working round the clock, transporting the injured and the dead to the Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital and the J. J. Hospital during the murderous terrorist attack on Bombay on November 26, 2008, as per a press release sent to Parsiana by the Brigade’s commissioner Feroze Sethna, who presented 16 members of the Brigade with certificates and meritorious service awards.

The Parsi Ambulance Division team, ably led by divisional commander Aspi Sarkari, has always been in the forefront helping people in times of calamity such as house collapses, train blasts and bombing attacks, the write-up reveals. During the November 26, 2008 attack Sarkari’s team of volunteers included Sergeant Neville Bharucha, Corporal Firdosh Bhada, Privates Adi Doctor, Rayomaand Tavaria, Mehernosh Bacha, Nozer Kararia and 10 staff members of the Division who risked their lives in the line of duty, making the community proud of their dedication.
