BPP elections in April

The Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) election to fill the vacancy created by the sudden demise of sitting trustee Rustom Tirandaz will be held over the first two weekends of April 2009. According to a public notice issued by BPP chief executive Mehli Colah the polling will be held on April 4 at Sir Shapurji Bharucha Baug, Andheri; April 5 at Cusrow Baug, Colaba; April 11 at Khareghat Memorial Hall, Khareghat Colony, Hughes Road; April 12 at Dadar Parsee Gymkhana. The results will be declared latest by April 16.
The last date for filing nominations is February 28, 2009 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 15. To contest the elections candidates should be over the age of 30 and will be required to make a deposit of Rs 5,000. Voter registration was closed on February 13. Duplicate certificates, at a cost of Rs 10, will be issued from the BPP office until April 1.
At the time of going to press, Tirandaz’s widow Armaity was stated to be offering her candidature for the post left vacant by her late husband.
