“Fighting an enemy…”
I read the February 21, 2008 issue of Parsiana with deep interest. Two articles were devoted to Dr Kersey Antia, his recent visit and talk at the invitation of the Association for the Revival of Zoroastrianism (ARZ) and the Association of Inter-Married Zoroastrians (AIMZ).
I have known Antia for three decades and have been impressed not only by his great knowledge of our religious texts but by his convictions and courage. Leaders, religious or political, should at times make decisions based on their convictions and pass them through the storm of public opinion, standing firm and not changing direction under pressure. Otherwise we will witness a community which lacks direction and is stalled in time.
As per the history of our own religion, it was due to Prophet Zarathushtra’s conviction, standing firm and refusing to compromise that the ancient Indo-Iranians eventually gave up the Daevas and became Mazda worshippers.
Leaders are not always rewarded during their time in public service. Only a few of them blessed with long life will see public opinion mature. I believe a tribute to Antia was long overdue.
