“A bright future”
I have always lauded the work of Parsiana which I felt was gradually steering our community into awareness of changing times and circumstances and the need to act upon it. However, for the first time I am disappointed. I refer to "A bright future” (Editorial Viewpoint, Parsiana, January 7, 2007). One of the names mentioned as your choice for Zoroastrian of the year is Dhun Baria, which surprises me.
Let me make it clear that I too hope to see the day when bunglis can be used for prayers for those opting for alternative means of disposal — but not at the expense of holding my community to public ridicule. Some call Baria’s action bold. Perhaps some may deem it a ‘sacrifice’ that she should place her own mother in a situation abhorred by her and make that an excuse to stir up a hornet’s nest. Maybe this is ‘modern thinking.’ Maybe there are people who feel the means justify the ends and without Baria’s action nothing would be done. They are welcome to their beliefs and of course Parsiana is free to nominate whosoever it feels fits the bill. However, I for one, belonging to the old school and with pride in belonging to our community would refrain from casting the vote.
