Mehervanjee’s merit

"In recognition of your long-term commitment, dedication and great contribution in the interest of fraternity and the public at large, our executive committee decided to honor you with the Life Time Achievement Award,” noted a communiqué addressed to L. S. D. Mehervanjee from the Practising Engineers Architects and Town Planners Association (PEATA-India) president Bharat Shah and past president Sudhakar Dokhane.

The erstwhile chief fire officer of the Bombay Fire Brigade, during the octogenarian’s 43 years of service there were many occasions when Mehervanjee showed exemplary gallantry. Among the most memorable occasions was the fire aboard the ammunition ship S. S. Fort Stikine in 1944 when he was amongst the first crew to respond to a fire call from Victoria Dock. The fire was followed by two great explosions when he was seriously injured. Mehervanjee was later able to resume duty.
Over the years he has received the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service as also the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, notes the citation. Besides receiving honors for extraordinary gallantry he has been recognized by the Institute of Fire Engineers and the Fire Protection Association of India. On February 25, 2006 he was conferred the award by PEATA which "is recognized by the civic authority and state government for its excellent performance and contribution to the building industry,” as noted an introduction to the organization.
